More than 14.5% of homes in Florida are owned by single women, compared to 10% by single men.
MIAMI – The share of single women who own their own homes has risen in Florida, a new report by Axios found.
LendingTree reports that Florida has the fifth-largest share of single-women homeowners in the nation. More than 14.5% of homes in Florida are owned by single women, compared to 10% by single men, according to Census data.
In the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metros, single women homeowners eclipse single men by just over six percentage points, said a census data analysis by Porch.
The difference in Lakeland-Winter Haven is 7.24 percentage points. Homosassa Springs is the only Tampa Bay area where men have a larger share by just 1.76 points.
Single women accounted for 18% of national mortgage applications in 2023, with Gen Zers and millennials making up the largest share of single women mortgage applicants, according to mortgage platform Maxwell’s report.
However, single Latina and Black women have the lowest homeownership rates of any group in the United States, and single women with children also face low homeownership rates compared to other groups, including single men with children.
