Pending sales \u2013 homes under contract but not yet sold \u2013 rose 0.8% month-to-month in Feb. with only the Western region seeing a decline.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n WASHINGTON \u2013 Pending home sales grew in February for the third consecutive month, according to the National Association of Realtors\u00ae (NAR).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Of the four U.S. regions in the pending-sale breakdown, only one \u2013 the West \u2013 failed to see a monthly gain. However, all regions saw a pending-sales decline year-to-year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI) \u2013 a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings \u2013 improved 0.8% to 83.2 in February. Year-over-year, pending transactions dropped by 21.1%. An index of 100 is equal to the level of contract activity in 2001.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAfter nearly a year, the housing sector\u2019s contraction is coming to an end,\u201d says NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. \u201cExisting-home sales, pending contracts and new-home construction pending contracts have turned the corner and climbed for the past three months.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe affordable U.S. regions \u2013 the Midwest and South \u2013 are leading the recovery,\u201d Yun says. \u201cMortgage rates have improved in recent weeks after the federal government guaranteed the status of most mortgages amidst uncertainty in the financial market.
